WHO IS MIYAGI?

DJ Miyagi is a Hub City native. Born and raised in Lafayette, he has had the music in his blood since day one. Shortly after graduating from Comeaux High School, Miyagi decided to turn music into a career and began DJing at clubs and bars. He met numerous local DJs over the years, taking in knowledge and techniques from fellow beat junkies to create his own style. Heavily influenced by hip hop, Miyagi considers himself a “turntablist” (someone who uses techniques like beat matching, scratching and beat juggling during their DJ set).

RADIO EXPERIENCE

Miyagi grew up around radio. His mother worked on the business side since before he was born. Then one day, he decided to break into the radio world himself. Towards the end of 2013, Miyagi got hired to produce shows before becoming a jock himself. Although a “newbie” to being on air, Miyagi feels right at home with his new radio family.

INSPIRATIONS

Miyagi’s passion for music comes mainly from his father, who introduced him to great music from birth. At age 12, he began learning guitar…but after realizing his true calling, he would eventually put down the guitar and pick up a pair of turntables.

FAVORITE ARTISTS

Over the years, Miyagi was introduced to different styles and genres of music. His influences range anywhere from classic rock and blues from artists like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, and hip hop acts from Akon to Z-Ro.
